England star midfielder Jude Bellingham is set to decline a new contract at Borussia Dortmund, which will be a great boost for several European clubs.
Bellingham has drawn significant interest from clubs all throughout Europe. Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Liverpool are among the front-runners to sign the teenager.
This week, Bellingham will meet with Dortmund, who are eager to learn about his future plans before the season is through.
According to The Sun, Dortmund is willing to offer Bellingham a five-year contract at £180,000 per week, making him their highest-paid player.
As long as Bellingham gives the team advance notice to find a successor in the summer, Dortmund won't stand in Bellingham's way.
The midfielder and other young players at the club were persuaded to stay by Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic earlier this week.
"I believe that we need to work on keeping these young guys one year longer,' Terzic told The Athletic. "In my first season [as interim manager], I was able to put Jadon, Jude, and Erling on the pitch, but that was their only year together."
"That was also partly due to COVID-19 and empty stadiums, there were financial considerations. But if we can get to the point where it's two or three years of such a trio, maybe we can break the mould."
Although Bellingham's current deal doesn't expire until the end of the 2024–25 season, it seems increasingly likely that he will leave Signal Iduna Park.
The midfielder has made 22 club appearances this season, scoring nine goals and dishing out three assists while occasionally serving as team captain. He also scored England's opening FIFA World Cup goal against Iran in Qatar.
The Bundesliga will resume this weekend after an extended winter break, marking Bellingham's first game back since shining at the World Cup.
Earlier, Dortmund director said the club hasn't received any offers to sign the 19-year-old.
"There are no offers at all for Jude Bellingham as of now, nothing is decided", he told Kicker. We will speak to Jude and his family, no pressure — there are absolutely no proposals"
